Week 8's videos and readings were really good. I liked the Five Whys's although I don't figure out what 5 and "Why" had to do with it. I think the concept he taught that if a problem comes up to do a portion of the solution. I believe he is teaching to not jump in head first when a problems arises. Take a step to create a solution then if it comes up again, do a little more. If it's truly a problem that needs to be addressed then the solution will be processed soon without a huge disruption.
I always cry during the video of Elder Holland. I can always feel his plea to "Don't you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon. Some come late. And some don't come till heaven but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ they come. It will be alright in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come." I can use that in many areas of my life. Here's the link to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nczw6xHJ0I
I really don't like the book we are reading right now. There are some good questions that it poses though. It's challenges at the end of each chapter are intriguing. I suppose it can still be a good book throughout the other chapters. I guess I'll see.

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 7
Some of this week's readings had to do with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The First one is Be Proactive. I think that I'm a more reactive person. I'm not really one to make things happen. I could use some change there.
Second is Begin with the End in Mind. I think this is where teachings of the church come into play in many, many people's lives. We know that our end goal is the Celestial Kingdom so we can do things proactively to get ourselves and our families there. In business we have to know where we want to go in order to make decisions to get there. If we want to make a million dollars by the end of the year, it isn't usually just going to happen. We have to make goals and decisions to be successful at it. The concept of private victory is important and this second step helps us have private victories so we can trust ourselves so we have the confidence to go out and have public victories when we perform in the workplace. Jim Ritchie explained all this is the video this week. This habit seems most important to me because if you aren't headed in the right direction you're wasting your time and your life.
The other habits are Put First Things, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand-Then to be Understood, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw. They are all important but I think knowing your direction is most important to me.

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 6
This week has been a lot of introspection. What are my priorities? Who do I put first? Who should I put first? What does it take to succeed? Do I have what it takes to succeed?
I lack a lot of self motivation. I tend to have to be "to the line" to perform a lot of times. Take this week for example. I had very few assignments to do for two of my three classes. I've had all week to work on them and also work on my Sacrament Meeting talk. Here I am on Saturday finishing everything. When I don't feel the pressure, I'm more inclined to do other things or mess around. I've managed to clear 1500 old emails from my inbox. Did it need to be done? Sure. Did it need to be done this week? Absolutely not. This tendency is something I need to work on.
My talk is on Sacrifice. I think I'm going to bring in the parallel of Opportunity costs and connect it in business terms. The video about Loyalty to God and Family really makes me think about sacrifice. We need to make sure we sacrifice in the right areas. If we avoid sacrificing God and family for business then I think the business side will take care of itself.
In Mastery the chapter on Intentionality was quite familiar to me. We were talking about that at one of our Pampered Chef meetings. I think visualizing and intentional steps make a big difference in a business. I think vision boards are great for this. I have started putting little sayings on my computer. The one that is there now was said in Relief Society last week (I'm usually in nursery but we didn't have any kids) and I made sure to write it down. We were talking about tools and habits. She had made wrenches that said Scripture Study, Family Home Evening, Prayer, and Attending the Temple. She said using these tools are simple but it's hard to do. Here's what she said:

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 5
This week hasn't been as spectacular as the last couple. I really liked Ministry of Business but I'm not as impressed with Mastery. I read the first 4 chapters so I suppose it could get better. Perseverance is a great topic. These days we live in an "I quit" world. People quit their jobs. People quit their marriages. People quit their kids even. When the going gets tough they jump ship. In business, it's hard a lot of the time. If you can't persevere then you will probably fail. I think that's one of the things that is scary about starting my own business.
Finding a person's passion is pretty scary. Are you stuck with it? Can you change your mind? You have to make sure that you're not just riding the coat tails of someone else's passion. It would feel pretty discouraging to work hard for years just to find yourself in someone else's passion instead of your own.
A key point of the Hero's Journey to me were the questions he said the people over 60 said were important. Who did I love? Who loved me? Have I contributed something meaningful? Was a good person? These are very important questions. They can lead you to make very different choices in your life. I think I'm a pretty good person outside my house but it's hard to live in my house. I have contributed 8 children to be successful citizens if I haven't done anything else. I have loved a lot of people but probably not shown it like I should have. Some people love me and some don't.
My board of directors experience is pretty funny. I would love to have these people on my board but I think I would be too afraid to talk to them. I think they are highly successful people who I believe would have the knowledge and expertise to make a big difference in what I could do on my own. I think I covered important areas in expertise that will help me have a well rounded successful business.
